Hello All,

I'm using Cpanel 74.0.6, and attempting to create an encryption key for a mail user.

Unfortunately, I'm greeted with the error "There was a problem creating the GnuPG Key. The request timed out."

This occurs after about 10 minutes or so.

Has anyone ran into this? Does anyone have a solution? Thank You in Advanced :)

Hello @razak19,

GPG requires a certain amount of entropy to generate they key, and thus it's possible the issue you are facing is due to a lack of entropy on your system. You can check the current available entropy using the following command:

Code:
cat /proc/sys/kernel/random/entropy_avail
More information about how this works is available at:

gpg --gen-key hangs at gaining enough entropy on centos 6

One potential workaround is to install the rng-tools package and generate entropy using the commands below:

Code:
yum install rng-tools -y; rngd -r /dev/urandom
Once you do this, try generating the key again to see if it works. Note that we do have an internal case open to monitor reports of this happening. The case number is CPANEL-14899. I'll monitor this case and update this thread with more information as it becomes available.

Thank you.

Michael, I get the same error and google it and arrive to this post. I do what you say and i works perfect.

First I have this:

[[email protected] ~]# cat /proc/sys/kernel/random/entropy_avail
49

And Now:
[[email protected] ~]# cat /proc/sys/kernel/random/entropy_avail
3092

So, its something that I think, must have a listener on the cpanel system. Why? Because if i hadn't tried to generate that certificate i would never have known about this error.

But the solution works perfect.

Thanks!
