I was working in a client's cPanel today when I noticed this suggestion in the auto-delete section of the spam filters page:

We recommend that you use Spam Box instead of Auto-Delete because Spam Box allows you to recover messages that you delete unintentionally.
This isn't exactly a true statement. Enabling the spam folder will not allow you to recover a message that you delete unintentionally.

I think this would be more accurate:

We recommend that you use Spam Box instead of Auto-Delete. Spam Box allows for the recovery of false positives (messages marked as spam that aren't) from a spam folder, whereas Auto-Delete simply deletes them.

Hello @MediaServe,

I've opened case CPANEL-26992 to request an improvement to the description found under "Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete)" in cPanel >> Spam Filters to avoid potential confusion over which emails are recoverable.

I'll update this thread with more information on the status of this case as it becomes available.

Thank you.

Hello,

To update, the improvement request was approved and the updated description will appear in cPanel >> Spam Filters starting in cPanel & WHM version 82.

Thanks!
