Hoping someone can advise a safe way to resolve this unusual situation.

All sites / cPanels / WHM on my servers are working and accessible, but today after I upgraded geoipupdate (required new version to get a key and receive updates after MaxMind's changes yesterday / to make CSF work correctly with it) I noticed I now have 1 zombie process on each server. Strangely, the zombie process is cpsrvd.

ps aux|grep cpsrvd
root 12473 0.0 0.0 108996 23204 ? S Dec25 1:29 cpsrvd (SSL) - waiting for connections
root 3263193 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Z 21:09 0:00 [cpsrvd (SSL) - ] <defunct>
root 3263300 0.0 0.0 105376 916 pts/0 S+ 21:09 0:00 grep cpsrvd

ps aux |grep "defunct"
root 3264595 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Z 21:12 0:00 [cpsrvd (SSL) - ] <defunct>
root 3264655 0.0 0.0 105376 916 pts/0 S+ 21:12 0:00 grep defunct

I tried some basics, such as running upcp and /scripts/restartsrv_cpsrvd but neither has made a difference.

I've been lucky enough to not ever had to deal with zombie processes before, but that also means I'm unsure of a safe way to approach this. I've done quite a bit of reading over the past couple hours and can't seem to find anyone who has encountered and resolved this.

Can anyone advise?

Thank you. And wishing you all a safe happy healthy New Year!

Hello,

We have an internal case CPANEL-27140 regarding this behavior. It is unrelated to your geoipupdate upgrade.

For now, this doesn't cause any major issues that we are aware of, so it can be ignored.

You don't need to do anything specific about it -- and even if you did something, you would see new zombie processes eventually.

We'll update this thread when we have any new details related to this case.
