cPanel API work on trial license?

I'm troubleshooting my API connection with a new server still running a trial license of cpanel and i'm getting:
Failed connect to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:2087; Connection refused

However the same code connecting to another server (not trial) works without problems. My question is... Is the trial license to blame? Or is it something else?

API will definitely work on a trial license as long as the trial is valid. With Connection Refused it sounds like you have a firewall issue blocking requests to 2087.
