I am trying to get up an Amazon S3 Bucket as an additional destination but cannot get it to validate. I have done the following:-

1. I followed CPanel's instructions "How to configure Amazon S3 backups in WHM"
2. I created a bucket, set up an Access Key and Secret Key. Note as per historical threads, I avoided naming the bucket with any periods in it as I understand this will not allow destinations to validate.
3, I set up the additional destination in WHM as per the instructions. I have never has any problems with FTP as an additional destination.
4. Every time I attempt to validate, I get a connection timeout error. The following is in the Error Log:-
[2019-08-06 18:36:45 +0100] info [xml-api] Validation for transport “Solutions Amazon AWS” failed: Timeout [backup_destination_validate] version [1].

Note that the CPanel Server is not on AWS but external. Is there anything else I should configure to allow the server to back up to AWS. I even tried turning on full public access but that did not make any difference.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hello @kallanp,

Can you confirm if backups are properly generated and transported to the Amazon S3 destination despite the initial validation failure? You can manually force a backup generation with the following command:

/usr/local/cpanel/bin/backup --force

If backups succeed despite the initial validation failure, there's a thread on the this topic at:

Thank you.

Thanks for the response, but I didn't need to do the backup. I read the thread for which you provided the link, and it appears it was all about giving time for the bucket to be ready (I assume it needs time to replicate to the desired location, as was mentioned in that thread). It will successfully validate today, so CPanel will be doing its first backup to AWS in the early hours of tomorrow morning my time.

Thanks again,

Kallan.
