I currently am running a trial version of Cpanel+WHM to make sure I can get what I need done without too much confusion. CPanel and the WHM were not difficult. But the DNS only version I have set up on seperate IPs is geving the headache of the decade. I have them installed but for some reason if I try to log into the DNS server to look at the settings... I get reouted to my CP server, I have not configured the DNS only server yet, I am wondering if becuase the nameservers are NS1.domainname.com and NS2.domainname.com and my server is cp1.domainname.com there is some conflict. should I redo my DNS only version and name them different? It might be on my domain registrar side but I have no cname or anything that has NS in it.

EDIT: I actually just looked at the CNAME on my registrar and see that I do have a ns1 and ns2 cnames but thier pointers are the IPs of the dns servers so I have changed them to A records and so they work now but I am just so darn confused. :(

*sigh*

Also is there a visual video or something that shows setting up DNS only so I can visually see the steps?

Thank you in advance for your opinions and help!

Hello :)

You should be able to access your DNS-Only server directly with it's IP address through Web Host Manager or SSH. You can find the DNS Cluster configuration guide at:

Guide to DNS Clustering

This includes pictures of the options that you will be configuring. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions about this guide.

Thank you.

Thanks Micheal,

I my biggest confusion at this time is can one DNS server host both NS1 and NS2? should I not use two DNS servers and consolidate my infrastructer to just 1 DNS server hosting both Nameservers? I understand DNS pretty well on some levels but I feel so novice when it comes to using the DNS only cpanel software.

You can utilize one DNS-Only server for both name servers if necessary. Many users prefer to setup separate DNS-Only servers for each name server for additional redundancy but it's not absolutely required.

Thank you.
