I complained about this almost a year ago and nothing.

The cPanel DNS only setup had a disk requirement of 500 MB, its basically just Bind with a WHM wrapped over it.

Somewhere along your 11.4*** updates, the cPanel team decided it was a good idea to upgrade those servers with a fully working cPanel !!!! All my cPanel DNS servers started to use 3+ GB disk space just for cPanel files, checking them they all had full blown cPanel versions on it, including web server, database, webstats, mail server, ftp server, everything, even when you can't use anything because its still limited by the license. The WHM is limited to only the DNS features anyway so why the need to install this?

I complained about this and its still not fixed. I had the DNS servers setup with 10 to 15 GB disks each, which was more than enough for the CentOS base and cPanel DNS and nothing more. It was fine for years but now all of them complain they cannot be upgraded anymore because they lack space, space cPanel is eating. Basically I'm forced to upgrade all those machines to bigger drives just because the developers are to lazy to make their software clean.

Please take a look into all the garbage that cPanel DNS Only servers is installing, 90% of what is installed can't be used, so what is it there? This data should be removed from cPanel DNS servers so they can keep upgrading themselves and work like usual, simple and efficient.

I should just have stayed with Webmin for my DNS GUI.... Its like 50 MB, clean and does not modify anything except provide a nice interface for the BIND records and clustering.

It would be nice if someone can explain me why cPanel requires a couple of gigabytes of files to do the same.

Same problem today (ver 11.44 to 11.46):
Are we're expected to upgrade disk space on clustered servers to accommodate the upgrade bloat?

Is your issue on a DNS Only server or no? That's what this thread is concerning, DNSOnly server.

If not, this thread may be of some use to you:

Yes. The thread title is "cPanel DNS Only servers Disk Usage"

I was searching for a list of files that could possibly removed when I found this thread. I have 4 DNS Only servers that I'm unable to update because of the added bloat. Before the bloat there wasn't a problem with upgrades and now the only advice I can find (other than to allocate more disk space) is to submit a feature request to presumably - remove the bloat and get back to how it once was?

    nibb/deka,

The space requirements for DNS Only and cPanel/WHM are actually the same as you can see in our documentation here:

    http://documentation.cpanel.net/display/ALD/Installation+Guide+-+Hardware+Requirements

The upgrade to 11.46 requires this additional disk space as we upgraded our perl binaries to 5.14, so almost every binary has to be downloaded, you can see the change description here:

    http://documentation.cpanel.net/dis...eleaseNotes-UpdatedPerlenvironmentsandmodules

I would also like to mention that we have not made ay changes to DNS Only in 11.46.

One of our analysts wrote a last resort guide to mounting /usr/local/cpanel to a different partition to facilitate the upgrade which maybe useful to you here:

    Thanks!
