Hi all,

I'm new to cPanel and a little bit confused about DNS only.

Currently I'm using the following setup:
- one Directadmin server
- nameserver 1 (powerdns)
- nameserver 2 (powerdns)

There is no relation between the nameservers and the DA server, I have to add the domains to the nameservers manually and this can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

I recently setup my first cPanel server and enjoy the way it works. So I want to setup two new nameservers with cPanel DNS only. Is it possible to do this and keep my DA server in action? For example:

- one Directadmin server
- one cPanel server
- nameserver 1 (cpanel dns only)
- nameserver 2 (cpanel dns only)

The cPanel doesn't have to do DNS, but users can use this server to edit their records into the nameserver.
The same goes for the Directadmin server.
Is this a scenario that is possible and if so, how do I configure it?

Thank you for your time! :)

Ok, that is not really a problem. But how does the interaction between cPanel and cPanel DNS only work?
Is it possible to run cPanel without DNS and let it forward all it's changed to the real nameservers?

Hello :)

Yes, you can create direct links from the cPanel server to the cPanel DNS-Only server so that DNS changes made on the cPanel server are automatically synced to the DNS-Only servers. Running a DNS server on the cPanel machine itself is not required. You can find more information here:

Guide to DNS Cluster Configuration

Thank you.
