Hi

From inside cPanel control panel, is there a size limit to the home directory backup a user can download.

I've been told that the full backup method has a 5GB limit.?

Is there such a limit on the home directory backup feature?

Also since the home directory backup doesn't leave the .GZ file in the hosting account, does the account need the right amount of empty space within the account in order to create the .GZ in the first place?

Thanks
Aaron

Heya,

I have seen cpanel backups bigger than 5GB, it's not that unusual.
I believe if you exceed the Hosting Disk Space Limit you have setup for that certain account when doing a full backup run you will get into troubles.

Thanks for your response.

Does anyone know how a home directory backup is actually processed.?

How is it different to a full directory backup in regards to files.?

The home directory backup appears to ZIP up the files on the fly and is not dependant on free account disc space rather than the full backup where you need the account space in order to do it.

I think if you have a large account >5GB of data and do a home directory backup and download it, if the HTTP connection hiccups then the download is then corrupt or incomplete.

I have a feeling that it's not cPanel's fault, but HTTP downloading a very large in one go is always hard work.
