    I am using CentOS 3.3 (final). It's just a clean-installed server.

I had the same error when trying to install cPanel using 'sh latest'.

    A few suggestions:

    1. Check if there's activity in any of the cpanel installation log files in:

    /var/log/cpanel*

    2. Check your ps output and see what it is running:

    ps axf

    3. Use strace against the install process PID to see what it is doing:

    strace -f -p PID

Those should give you enough information to track down the problem.

I know this will sound stupid but, did you try to hit enter? Sometimes the scripts do not fully exit back to the prompt and you need to just hit the enter key to cause the script to close. Like I said it sounds stupid but it has happened.

    It doesn't help.

After running latest.sh it gives [root@server03] which means, the script is closed after saying "Scanning suexec_log...Done"

/usr/local/cpanel/logs/error_log did not give interesting information.

Thing is, scanning through suexec is usually the last thing it does. Are you sure that it hasn't simply finished - did you try the 3 things I suggested?

Support has fixed it for me. It seemed nothing special.
