cpanel installed on 1 IP - SMTP wont work

    Hi Everyone,

I just installed Cpanel on Thursday. I am having two problems. 1) I can not set up a second domain. 2) My mail services are not working.

I am currently running Cpanel on 1 Static IP Address.

    1)
I was able to get 1 domain to attach to it by using Nameservers provided by the ZoneEdit service.

I have tried to add a second domain now. It does not seem to be progating. I used the same nameservices as I did with the first domain (ZoneEdit, setting up my ip with their webservice).

It has almost been 72 hours and the 2nd domain does not seem to be propogating.

I ran a report on DNSReport.com and only reveceived two fails. The fails are: Reverse DNS entries for MX records and Connect to mail servers

    2)
Mail services are not working for the first domain as well. I even tried setting up mail.mydomain.com with zoneedit. Still no luck. Both POP and webmail is not working.

I think that my problem is realted to the fact that I may not have my hostname set up properly. It is currently set to "localhost.localdomain".

Is it possible to run Cpanel on one static IP address? Do I have to configure my other domains with zoneedit, or do I just have to use the same Nameservers as I did with my first domain (no configuration with zoneedit).

If anyone out there can give me any pointers to get started that would be awsome.

First of all, you can have one Ip address to install Cpanel and to host multiple domains on it. Also I guess the hostname should not be the problem in this case. You will have to check the apache configuration file ie. httpd.conf. Check the VirtualHost entry for the 2nd domain and also add a entry of NameVirtualHost entry for the IP in httpd.conf file.

You can also have your own nameservers and you can assign to all the domains you host on your server. You will have to get another 2 dedicated IPs and have to register the nameservers at the registrar end. Like your main domain is abc.com, you can have the nameservers as ns1.abc.com and ns2.abc.com. You can add those nameservers through WHM.

Regarding the emails, is the first domain pointing to your server? If yes, try executing
    /scripts/exim4 --force
    /scripts/mailperm
Also check the MX records in zone file located at /var/named/ having extension as .db

Thanks for your reply Shekhar. I think I have figured out my problem with the second domain. (i set up the nameservers incorrectly *dope!*).

I am still having problems with mail though. The first domain is pointing to the server right now. I checked for the MX records located at /var/named/.... the do have an extetion as .db

I dont quite understand what you mean by try executing:
    /scripts/exim4 --force
    /scripts/mailperm

I opened up the Terminial and simply typed exim4 --force within that directory and nothing happend. I even tried command exim4 and start exim4. Still nothing. You have to exuse me, i am very new to Linux

I'm still trying to find out why mail services wont function on one IP using ZoneEdit to host nameservers. I still think its related to my hostname.....

This is what i get when i tail the exim mainlog when trying to send an e-mail with webmail (i've censored log so test@mycpaneldomain.com is the email set up on cpanel and test@testemail.com is the legit email i was trying to send to):

    [root@localhost home]# tail -f /var/log/exim_mainlog

well i figured out the problem. I didnt have zoneedit configured correctly to resolve mail.mydomain.com to my IP address.

Now webmail works both incoming and outgoing.

POP3 - incoming works but not OUTGOING (SMTP)

I've tried setting it to log on use secure password authentication. I dont think this is problem with my e-mail client. Anyone have any idea what could be cause my SMTP to fail when using Zoneedit to host my DNS?
