Looks like your perl dir is missing ???

cd /usr/local/cpanel/
rsync -av rsync://rsync.cpanel.net/perl perl

thank you again bdraco for all your help and patience.

resetting password didn't work.. but i just rebooted the server and mysql started working... ???? don't understand it. i assume it's working.. no more error messages in cpanel.

But yes... you guessed.. i have yet another issue.... I'm about ready to have the server wiped and start over :(

in cpanel i select mysql and add a user and database and it looks good... but when i click on phpmyadmin i just get a blank white page.

I tried updating phpmyadmin but get this error:

root@localhost [/usr/local/cpanel/bin]# ./updatephpmyadmin
grep: /root/.my.cnf: No such file or directory
root@localhost [/usr/local/cpanel/bin]#

any suggestions for the new problem?

and it shows updatephpmyadmin there... here is a list of files in the bin directory:

root@localhost [/usr/local/cpanel/bin]# ls
./ cppop* listadmin* popadmin*
../ cpwrap* listwrap@ poppass*
adduser* CVS/ logrunner* popsh*
a.out* domainadmin* makeindex* popwrap@

Make sure the pass= in /root/.my.cnf is matching your new MySQL password.[/quote:41e0d22f21]

If the passwords didn't match would I still be able to setup databases through the cpanel directly? Or would it affect just myphpadmin?

Good question. Unmatched root passwords can sometimes create problems, e.g. you may get an error when doing MySQL tasks that requires the root user. It may be worth trying. ;)
