Why is cpanel so resource intensive?
I dont mean the actually control panel itself but the way it does things.

    .htaccess is VERY SLOW!
mod_rewrite is SLOW for hotlink protections!!! setenvif is better!
All that stuff you put in .htaccess which is not dynamic should be in httpd.conf, never ever use .htaccess unless absolutely necessary.

I run a free host and a paid host.
The free host has nearly 25k members, at peak times the server does about 5mbps with the load being around 1.0 - 5.0. This server does not use cpanel. .htaccess disabled! I have configured this server, wrote most of the software myself using many optimization techiques.

The paid server using cpanel has 250 accounts and does about 500kbps (and maybe 1.2mbps at peak times) and the load is about 1.5 - 8
    how can this be???
Dont say i am trying to overload the server or put too many accounts, if my other server can take 25k free accounts with heavy usage surely cpanel should handle 250 low usage accounts.
