I would like to buy a CPanel licence for my dedicated server..but I\'m the only one that uses it and I don\'t really want to pay $99/month for the licence. Anyone know of a way I can LEGALLY get a licence for cheaper for my dedicated server? The host that hosts my dedicated server said they will install it for me but I must purchase the licence.

I believe the only way to get it cheaper is to go through a distributor (e.g. site5.com or liquidweb.com)

wizardshosting.com/datacolo.com will offer you the license EXTERNALLY (outside of DataColo NOC) for $60 i beleive... INside their NOC they offer it cheaper though:)

You can contact them about it... getting a dedicated server through THEM will allow you to get a cheaper cpanel license rate.

Does all this means that nobody can get a FREE version of Cpanel. Does everibody need to buy it to a distributor?

What is the link Layer 1 and Layer 2 on the main Cpanel.net page? Isen´t it a isntallation of the Cpanel?

I am in the same situation as acer2k and I think is stupid to pay $99 all month for nothing! Don´t you think so?

I think you can pay for buying the software, but not for rent it!

    Thanks everibody.

All the files in Layer 1 and 2 can only be installed on a server if you\'ve already purchased a license to use Cpanel/WHM.

You can get cpanel for free/less if you purchase a dedicated server or co-locate with a distributor. If you want to have an EXTERNAL license, then you\'ll have to pay the $99/mo. fee.

Those are only available to people that already have cpanel licenses, as was mentioned above.

This has been the subject of a lot of controversy over the past couple of weeks, at webhostingtalk.com .. basically, the providers of this software are promoting it as a service (b/c of the support and free upgrades).

How can I become a CPanel distributor? I would like to know because I\'m starting my new hosting company soon and I will offer dedicated servers and I want to offer CPanel..And..How much are distributors paying for this software? Cant be much if they include it if you buy from them for only $30. I just refuse to pay $100. I my as well go with Cobalt or (YUK!->) Plesk. I\'m using plesk right now just because I think $100/month for CPanel is just ridiculous! I know a quite a few hosting companies that don\'t offer CPanel because of the ridiculous price. I already pay $200/month for my dedicated server..I don\'t want another $100 bill until I can afford what I am paying right now! I\'ve been reduced to using Plesk! lol

You should be thankful for the $99 fee, a year ago cpanel was $199 per mo per server .

Ok, beeing one of the distributers let me clarify

Cpanel costs 99.00 for a Lic. outside the NOC of the distributors, you don\'t just \"become\" a distributor, these are companies that have been envolved with the cpanel development almost from the beginning.

If you wish to get Cpanel cheaper, you need to colo with one of the companies distributing it .. peroid

And please, stop the mumbo jumbo of \"I only pay XX for plesk\" .. well then GET PLESK .. nobody owes you anything, that\'s the price for Cpanel, it\'s either take it or leave it .. furthermore, since it runs on Linux, people seem to think that .. like linux .. it shoudl be free !! (or almost) .. well boys and girls, get a reality check, this is business, an that\'s why the pricing is as is, the distributors whant you to colocate with them, not with somebody else.

    (sorry for the rant guys)

You give the impression that you actually wrote some of the code of Cpanel/WHM?

My boy, be calm. Just enjoy your privilege as a distributor... but remember that you could have been on the other side of the fence like most of us are. ;)

    Could have been.... true....
but that would have meant I would have actually had a life in high school.
Instead I was talking with nicolas via his bedroom room until 4 AM on weekends as we bitched back and forth about CPanel bugs.

That all began nearly five years ago and the buglist has been knocked down a touch....

    thankfully.

    :D

    Bill Gates complex ???
Microsoft does the same thing and that is not something to be proud off. If it\'s just business for you and you feel ok about you probably don\'t give a damn about people. Now what does that say about you?

Greedy people is what keeps this world down :(

There is only one host I recommend :) They are VERY friendly, SUPER cheap, and ALWAYS there for you! :)<MODEDIT: No ads please. You many plug your own company, but not others. >
This is the only host I have ever found that actually cares about its members. I\'m not saying there arent others, Im just saying this is the only one I have ran across. Most hosts are greedy, and don\'t give a crap about its members. As long as they get your money :(
