    What if I don't use CPanel, how much more difficult will life be ?

    I mean I only use CPanel for:
    * Backup MySQL DB
    * set up mail accounts and forwarders
    * set up DNS
    * set up apache (/scripts/easyapache, which often breaks btw)
    * set up new web accounts

    I can do all of the above fine without CPanel, except I may need to read up on DNS and mail accounts. Otherwise I'm all set.

    I am not reselling hosting, so a lot of functions are not needed.
    I think I can manage fine without CPanel. What am I in for ?

    Well belongs you have a decent knowledge of Linux and SSH you should be able to easily run what you need to do.

    There are some very decent tutorials about setting up a server without a control Panel. For example search Perfect Centos Setup and there is a good guide on howtoforge, this is the same for most majour OS.

    Also there is a Control Panel Called webmin which allows you to do the basic things that you would normal have to do in ssh, however uses no Ram and while you use the control panel is virtually no existent on ram and CPU usuage.

    However it really depends on your knowedge and skill to weather you can survive without WHM/CPanel or not.
