A user has reported problems with the cPanel password-reset procedure using the current Safari web browser on Mac OS X Tiger -- and I can confirm that the problem exists. Is this a known problem? Is there a workaround?

The specifics: The password reset procedure I'd been given was to go to http://example.com/securecontrolpanel and, when the dialog asks for username/password, hit "cancel" and you get the login screen with the option to reset the password.

Using Safari on OS X, however, hitting "cancel" stops communication with the server at that point, so the user never sees the login / password-reset screen.

Is this a known problem? Is there a workaround?

The workaround is most likely to recommend a more widely supported web browser  If you want to bring it to cPanel's attention, you can log a bugzilla entry unless there's one there already for it. Otherwise, using FireFox should work.

    oooo... them's fightin words ;)

Actually, I keep FireFox around for the odd time that I run into something that doesn't work in Safari. It's a nice browser too, thougg I do prefer Safari.

    :p I'm talking %ages here ;)
I know it's not an ideal answer, but from what cPanel has said in the past they mostly only test on IE/Firefox.

I know, I'm just yanking your chain :)

Out of curiosity though, AFAIK, Safari uses the KDE rendering engine which is what's used in Konqueror for Linux. Is Konqueror popularly used among desktop Linux users, or is FireFox the browser of choice there as well?

We prefer FF on Linux (CentOS).

    Filed as bug 3793

Following the suggestion, I've filed this as a new bug in cPanel's Bugzilla. It's number 3793.
