I was wondering, how much overhead does having a Cpanel installation use up on a server, no just the cpanel itself but the fact that all the bells and whistles are installed on that same server...

Like if I had a Dell 1U PIII 1.26 with 512MB ram that with just Redhat 8.0 clean server installed, and could handle 40/Mbs per second sustained...

How much performance would I lose by having Cpanel on the box, with things like ModPerl, ModSSL, and all the other stuff that Cpanel installs

cpanel has different modules to it. if your web is accessed then httpd/ apache uses resources (which anyways it will on a normal system), exim for mail server, like this others.

Basicaly cpanel helps you manage all of them and run them. Without cpanel it would be real hard to maintain and work with all of them in such less time. In short it doesn't create much of load and even if there is some load, its worth it ;) believe me
