    Hey folks,
I'm starting to move some clients over to a CPanel box and have had a few instances where I'd like to view a log file that shows POP3 authentications. I'm working with a client now who insists that the server isn't working properly, and the best I was able to do is try my own POP client and confirm that the server and account are okay.

Does cppop log somewhere? I poked around and haven't found it yet.

    Thanks,
    Jason

All of that is within /var/log/maillog

Also a good test for any problematic shite that is going down is telnetting to port 110 from the command line and making sure the user/pass handshake works and you can list the messages available (if any)

That can turn up some very helpful errors for you if there is a problem with the mailserver or a particular pop3 account.

I gotta get my eyes checked...

Thanks, Travis. I thought for certain that I looked there, since that's where all the IMAP and POP servers I've used put their logs. Seems I'm going blind!

If you view the /var/log/maillog should that also show outgoing mail (on port 26) ??

    Thanks

No. The logs for your mail server (in and outgoing) are in /var/log/exim_mainlog.

These logs get pretty big. Anyone know of an easy way to read them other than downloading 40mb?

ssh in and tail the logs
