Cpanel problem; some files disappeared

I clicked on a file in the file manager and then selected edit.

I think I actually had a few files selected when i clicked edit.

Then I got multiple error messages saying something like "fileop. failure. on: /home/public_html.... no such file or directory.

Now all the files selected disappeared and the website doesnt work.

Did those files get magically deleted or moved somewhere else?

Please help me?
