cPanel reports wrong number of cpu's

    cPanel Access Level:

    When I visit Main >> Server Status >> Service Status
    it reports I have 11 cpus, which obviously throws off the load
    values on reporting, when I actually have 8 cpu's.

    Main >> Server Status >> Service Status = 11cpus (wrong)
    Main >> Server Status >> Server Information = 8 cpus (correct)
    Main >> Server Status >> Daily Process Log = 11 cpus (wrong)

    Any ideas on what could cause this?

    I thought it was only me. Glad i'm not the only one.

    Having the same issue. WHM reports 18 CPUs but cPanel control panels report the correct number - 16.

    A change to this behavior is working its way through the QA process. Only backups should be using the "extracpus" setting; everything else should be using the physical number of CPUs. The internal case number for this is 41843. There is no ETA available for when this will be pushed to public builds, but case 41843 will be mentioned in the cPanel - The Leading Control Panel - Change Log when this happens.

    Also on servers that have hyper threading on your processors, it will report you have double the amount of CPU's that you actually have. If you're running 4 cores with HT enabled, then it will actually show it as 8 cores instead of 4.

    I have a new 8-core box on WHM 11.30.6 (build 4) that is reporting 16 cores in one place, and then counting them up as 10 under Server Information, which is especially confusing. The machine reports 16 via /proc/cpuinfo, but I assume that is due to hyper-threading?

    What are the implications for load calculations and the like? Are we supposed to make adjustments in this particular case? I'm not sure which number cpanel is calculating off of.
