ROFL - exactly. Remember that each time a person orders a dedicated server for a month and then gives it up, the next month it is back on the market as a 'new' dedicated server - after the drives have already been thrashed to death by umpteen previous customers.

there is a provider in TX that most of us have used / still using / run into ..has a tendency to recycle junk drives. In the past I have even been given a "new" server and it had other hosting sites on it from another host. It turned out that the secondary drive it was provisioned with was in such bad shape it failed to even format and I guess when they dropped it on the floor and kicked it across the room it jarred it back to working again so I wound up with another poor guys hosting sites. I think some of these providers thik if it boots, or almost boots ..or at least boots once out of 3 tries ..lease it!!!! this will work!! 500k hours on the drives still ..like new :D

Do some googling on your exact error, operating system, and drive. There are a few instances where this can be a false positive and is only indicating temperature going outside of some configured values. I'm not saying the notice should be ignored. I'm just saying there are cases where it has nothing to do with old age and the drive is in no trouble, even though the alert says it is.

Also, let your data centre know

with "new" i meant i just got it... i have no clue if it´s new or not, i guess not...and yes, one of that providers in texas :(

Anyways, i will reprovision that server, since i have nothing on it and will see what happens.. if they still suck, i really have to change to someone else... any idea where i can get something similar for around 80-100 bucks per month?
    thanks for your support

in my opioion for that price ..you are working on luck basically. you could luck out and have no problems at that price on the other hand you may find out you get what you pay for at the start. good luck with that one.

Contact Wiresix for a quote for the server specs you need. They will build to suit and the prices are very competitive -- better than what I found at LayeredTech, in fact. And the hard drives are newer, too!!!! ;)

I got the same email from two different servers out of the blue.
    Code:
    S.M.A.R.T Errors on /dev/sda
    From Command: /usr/sbin/smartctl -q errorsonly -H -l selftest -l error /dev/sda
Please note the following marginal Attributes:
ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE
    190 Unknown_Attribute 0x0022 050 044 045 Old_age Always In_the_past 9532342322
    ----END /dev/sda--
    Code:
     S.M.A.R.T Errors on /dev/sdb
    From Command: /usr/sbin/smartctl -q errorsonly -H -l selftest -l error /dev/sdb
Please note the following marginal Attributes:
ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE
    190 Unknown_Attribute 0x0022 071 043 045 Old_age Always In_the_past 29
    ----END /dev/sdb--
Not sure why i got them out of the blue from two separate servers. Was there an update that caused this command to run when it previously did not?

hikaro, it is probably nothing to be worried about, but run an extended test just to make sure.
