cPanel subscription and license transfer

Hi,

Question 1:
If I buy cPanel license for one year and do not renew it after 1 year
would my web server keep working or would it shut down?

Question 2:
If I am not happy with my colocation data center and decide to change it,
how do I transfer my cpanel license?

This is really a Cpanel sales question but I'll try to take a stab at it ...

If your license expires, your web sites that exist will keep working but
you will lose most of your control panel administrative ability and
won't be able to add any new sites or make any changes from within
Cpanel / WHM anymore. No, it won't delete your web sites!

Transferring I am not so sure about. My experience has been generally
having the license vendor cancel the old license and issuing a new one
for the new IP address. Normally it's not an issue to get this updated
when migrating usually but then I don't deal with co-location because
it is far too expensive and extra time consuming doing things that way
so not sure how Cpanel would handle it if you are just flat outright
purchasing the license directly.

Maybe a Cpanel agent can chime in here on this one?

I meant something like disabling Apache that would prevent serving web content.

You will need to contact your cPanel license distributor for the proper answers to these questions.

Question 1: nope you will just get a license error when trying to use cPanel (so cpanel would be worthless)

Question 2: Just contact cpanel when you want to move or your c panel partner if your purchased though a partner

No, Apache continues to run just fine .... :D

If you want to make any changes to sites where Cpanel has expired though,
you will need to make those changes manually at the shell level or update
your license to be able to get back in to Cpanel to make updates from there.

Most software made by cPanel, Inc will cease functioning once it is no longer licensed. This includes the WHM and cPanel interfaces. However, software not made by cPanel, such as Apache (which serves the web pages), will remain functional.

That depends on where you acquire your cPanel licensing. If you acquire your license from cPanel, Inc or a cPanel Distributor then you can transfer your cPanel license. With licenses purchased directly from cPanel, Inc - just login to the cPanel Store at cpanel.net/store and transfer the IP address on your license.

If you acquire your license from a reseller that does not have Distributor status, then you would likely be unable to transfer your license to another facility.

While you can acquire licenses directly from cPanel, you can find a list of license resellers that have Distributor status at cPanel Partners - cPanel Inc.
