cPanel Transfer Tool is updating mail routing before restoring DNS zones!

The current cPanel Transfer Tool (11.46.2.2) is updating mail routing before restoring DNS zones!

This means that if the destination server already contains the DNS zones for the domains (a rather common scenario, for instance if the new server is set up to be in the same DNS cluster), then this causes a major issue.

You see, for users who select the 'Automatic' (which is labeled Recommended!) mail routing option in cPanel, during the Transfer Tool's mail routing update, all of the transferred domains will be detected as remote (since the IPs in the DNS zones are from the old server) and placed in /etc/remotedomains, including those that are local.

To resolve this issue, the mail routing procedure is best moved within the sequence so that it is performed only after the DNS zones are restored, since that's when cPanel corrects/replaces all of the IP addresses in the DNS zones files.

Does this make sense? Or if there is something that we have overlooked, please let us know.

Hello :)

Could you open a support ticket so we can take a closer look? Internal case number 108461 dealt with this issue in cPanel version 11.44, when transferring an account did not respect "Automatically Detect Configuration" for email routing options. You can post the ticket number here so we can update this thread with the outcome.

Thank you.
