I have been receiving email notifications daily about a cpenal update. It appears /scripts/upcp is being run at about midnight every night. The weird part is that I have set all cPanel updates to "manual" in WHM > SERVER SETUP > UPDATE CONFIG. This just started happening on it's own in the last week or so.

I am also receivng similar emails for /scripts/cpbackup with the message via email saying "Backup not enabled". Again, I have not activated such a thing.

Any ideas where/what I can check?

    Go on, have a guess
Those are normal. upcp still needs to run nightly, it just won't do those updates - it does need to do maintenance work and check the license. cpbackup just runs and doesn't do anything if you don't use it. If you wanted to you could comment out the /scripts/cpbackup root crontab but it would probably reappear next time you update cPanel.
