Firstly, I am looking at getting hosting, trying to decide bwetween cPanel and a few of the competitors.

Firstly, what is the latest version of cPanel?

Secondly, if I get cPanel with my hosting, are there automatic updates of cPanel that occur, or once you have cPanel you you are "stuck" with the version that you got?

    Sorry for my complete newbieness!!

The latest updated versions are available here: http://layer2.cpanel.net

cPanel is an ever evolving control panel and is constantly changing and growing as does the industrys it helps enable. cPanel can be automatically updated every night or whenever you feel appropriate. Changes, updates and bugfixes can be found within the WebHost Manager that is bundled with / a part of the cPanel software, via the changelog link at the top. cPanel also works with your OS's update manager to help keep those programs available via your choice of OS up to date as well.

All of this is not meant to replace the job of a knowledged system administrator however! Its just helps make the job a lot easier.

Thanks, what do you mean by this?

Does that mean it help keeps server applicatins up-to-date (FTP, SSH, SSL, quickmail) - like when security or bug fixes become available they will auto-install?

How about when new versions of say PHP or MySQl become available?

    Again please excuse my newbieness!!
