We just got a enail notice titled: cPanel version change from “11.50.0.6” to “11.50.0.9” failed during updatenow.

The system detected an error during the cPanel & WHM version change from “11.50.0.6” to “11.50.0.9” which prevented updatenow from completing normally.

only error I could find is:
    Code:

Do you already have a symlink of
    /usr/local/cpanel/etc/init/scripts/redhat pointing to
    /usr/local/cpanel/etc/init/scripts/centos ?

According to this, you are updated to 11.50.0.9 now. Are you still experiencing issues?

No other issues noted, WHM says its WHM 11.50.0 (build 9)
Just weird that it generates this error on every few upcp runs, but still updates.

Just for the lolz (and obviously for some troubleshooting on the side!), run
    Code:
    /scripts/upcp --force

Then, if you the error occurs, upload the log file. I'll take a closer look with you. :)

    Hello,

Could you verify if the symbolic link for /usr/local/cpanel/etc/init/scripts/redhat now exists?

    Thank you.

Not actually seeing any symlinks, but the proper path is there as far as I can tell.

Where EXACTLY is this symlink entry suppose to be???

we are still getting error notices on every run of script "up to date" during upcp (cron or manual)

Here is the last part of the latest log entry:

Can you run the two following shell commands:
    Code:
    # cd /usr/local/cpanel/etc/init/scripts
    # ls -la

You should see something similar to below:
    Code:
    total 24
    drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 May 26 10:44 ./
    drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 May 26 10:44 ../
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 May 26 10:44 centos/
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 16 Mar 4 13:26 cpservices.yaml
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    6 May 26 10:44 redhat -> centos/
    drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 May 26 10:44 systemd/
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Mar 4 13:34 templates/

In particular, do you see this line? (Is it exactly like this? ("redhat -> centos"))
    Code:
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    6 May 26 10:44 redhat -> centos/

That will tell us if the symlink already exists.

As previously noted, this is what I see there:
    Code:
    root@svr4 [/usr/local/cpanel/etc/init/scripts]# ls -al
    total 28
    drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Apr 13 17:39 ./
    drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 May 20 22:22 ../
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 May 20 22:22 centos/
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 16 Apr 13 17:37 cpservices.yaml
    d--------- 2 root root 4096 May 20 22:21 redhat/
    drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 May 20 22:21 systemd/
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 13 17:39 templates/

So no the symlink isn't there

This issue was being caused by /usr/local/cpanel/etc/init/scripts/redhat existing as an empty directory with 000 permissions assigned to it. The resolution was to move away /usr/local/cpanel/etc/init/scripts/redhat and then run a forced cPanel update:

    /scripts/upcp --force

    It is still a symlink:
    Code:
    root@svr4 [/usr/local/cpanel/etc/init/scripts]# ls -al

    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 13 17:39 templates/

I'm not sure what's causing the error now but it's happening right at the beginning of the update run, and all the rest of the tasks seem to finish just fine.

just had another sever recently (Tuesday 16June) update to 11.50.0.10 and it's also throwing this generic error. That server doesn't use a staging DIR and has previously updated without issue. It has to be something in one of the update scripts added during the update to 11.50.0.10

This is my "redhat" symlink. Notice that the file permissions are: lrwxrwxrwx

Your redhat folder shown above is only d---------... I advise going through your servers and ensuring that they all have the correct permissions. If that does not work, I advise moving your redhat folder away as cPanelMichael said and then running the update.

    Code:
    /scripts/upcp --force
