Hello Forum Members -

The past couple of days I've been receiving cPanel update error messages. I've searched the forums and Google, and could not find examples which fit my specific issue.

Thank you in advance for any advice on this issue. Best wishes, johndoe.

Did you check these?

Same issue here. Checked out the other threads, not the same problem and I don't want to muck up anything via ssh that breaks cpanel. Any "automatic" fixes in the pipeline? Server seems to be working OK... maybe a bit sluggish but OK...

After using cPanel on this server for several years, I've not had a single issue with it. I rely more on cPanel to correct these things automatically if possible. I don't have the time to go in with SSH and risk messing things up. That's why I use cPanel and WHM - everything is taken care of by the brilliant software.

At any rate, I'll check into the links you provided to see if I can get any closer to a solution. Thanks for your response.

Best wishes!

Thank you for the reply. I've fixed the problem. I didn't realize I could set those values using WHM. I thought I had to go in using SSH.

After logging in to WHM, the instructions for updating were right there, crystal clear, as is typical for cPanel. Thank you all again for your replies. Best wishes!

Excellent info! Just go into WHM and follow the leads for what the server is telling you. And of course, if you aren't running the latest version of cPanel/WHM, upgrade while you're there.

I'm getting blocked messages tonight. I have no mailserver setting in cpanel.config, even after going to WHM and re-saving my mail server selection. :-(

That's not good. What's the cPanel & WHM version number you are upgrading from?

As a manual workaround you can add the proper entry manually to /var/cpanel/cpanel.config.

For example if your chosen mailserver is dovecot, do the following on the command line as root:

Code:
echo "mailserver=dovecot" >> /var/cpanel/cpanel.config
Substitute courier if you are using courier. Please note that letter casing must be lower case.

It is similar for ftpserver. The entry in cpanel.config should look like:

ftpserver=pure-ftpd

Substitute proftpd when using ProFTPd.

The special case for mailserver and ftpserver is when the service is disabled. In that case the configuration entry exists without an assigned value.

For example if the FTP service is disabled, the entry in cpanel.config will look like:

ftpserver

Once you change these manually, running scripts/upcp should allow the update to proceed.
