Hi.

I have try to google and search but cant find what i'm after so making a new thread to try.

I like to know if it is possible to make an account in WHM, sub/domain that only have access to one ftp folder. Not having a site, or see other folders or files that auto generate as regular website/webhotell/domain/account made in WHM.

And not having cPanel access with username/passord that is given around the account that is made.
Or hiding all folders except 1 that is mad on the ftp login on that new account?

Dont know if i ask correct....?

Hello :)

It's not possible to create an account with those parameters. However, you could create the cPanel account, and then setup an individual FTP account that you provide to the end-user for access. You can limit FTP accounts to specific directories.

Thank you.

Do i understand you correct that i can make an account in WHM, then make several ftp accounts inside cPanel, where every ftp account there have it's own user folder on the WHM created account?

Yes, that is correct. These users will not have access to cPanel, and will only have access via FTP to the defined directory entered during creation.

Thank you.

FTP accounts will not have access to SSH or SFTP. The cPanel account username is the only user that you can grant access to SFTP/SSH and this is separate from virtual FTP accounts. The workaround to this is to manually create individual users on the system and grant them shell access, but this is not recommended if you want to keep everything managed through cPanel/WHM.

Thank you.

any other workaround?.. This is really silly if not possible? I need SSH on the ftp users.
Can ProFTPD get this done as it have more configurable? Need this done or i need to find another system that can make this done....

Why i ask about proFTPD, is this post:
http://forums.cpanel.net/f145/case-46939-sftp-access-virtual-ftp-users-146521.html#post625237

In the interim, you may want to consider using ProFTPd and then going to FTP Server Configuration and requiring TLS encryption. This will allow your virtual FTP users to login via FTPS (FTP over TLS) and disallow insecure plain-text logins.
Is there something to this?

Adding, the reason i need this SSH, is that i'm going to use a client on computers that mapping that ftp folder to a drive on computer. So it can be used as a local hard drive, and that client program is not working wihtout SSH

Virtual FTP accounts that you create through cPanel run on a completely separate service than SFTP/SSH run on. You can not create individual SSH/SFTP accounts within a cPanel account. However, you can have the virtual FTP accounts use FTPS in their email clients if you prefer. It's just a matter of selecting that option in their FTP client. Note that FTPS is not the same thing as SFTP.

Thank you.
