Can CPanel/WHM be used for an ISP type company? So clients would not have their own domain name... perhaps it would look like:

    www.ispcompany.com/~username

And then, suppose you have many servers where your users data is held... is there a way to have a single management console... so when you select an account to manage, changes are made on the proper server.

    www.ispcompany.com/~username

this is not good for ISP for free host to their customer

    Because you can create subdomain.ispcompany.com

They can have cpanel for their website also if cstomer have their own domain, also can use their domain with hosting.

    Indeed...

You are better to offer subdomains of your hosting site.

Then, they would have their own control panel, and you could offer webhosting for domains.

In that case, CPanel would be great for you !

Ok a subdomain instead of ~username would work...

How about in cases where there are multiple servers to be managed... is there a single management interface, or would I have to first determine which server the user account is on, and then go to that server to manage the account?

There is a new clustering feature which is supposed to eventually allow 1 WHM to manage several servers.

It was only released recently and didn't work.

Does it now ? I don't know... Will it work soon ? I don't know...

In the mean time, you would need to either search or use a tool like ModernBilling ( modernbilling.com ) which allows the management accross several servers.
