    Hello everybody !

My company is in situation of changing one of the servers. Until now we had a classical LAMP but now I was thinking to install cPanel/WHM on FreeBSD beacause I am much familiar with it then I am with Linux.

I would like to know from other persons who used cPanel/WHM on FreeBSD what are the main problem that you encounter on it so that I'll be prepared for what is next.

Also I would like to know if UFS is well supported by cPanel/WHM.

As the server will be in testing for about one week before we put it in production, any advice will be apreciated even if it is not well documented.

Thanks in advance for your time and advices !

The "problems" I have in testing:

    1. quotas are not enabled by default. You have to recompile the kernel to get user quotas

    2. the cPanel install, and upcp, takes longer, partly due to the dependency on ports

    3. Default locations for application data differs from Linux (for example: MySQL usually stores DBs in /var/lib/mysql on Linux, but /var/db/myqsl on FreeBSD). Sometimes this means something is missed during a backup/transfer.

I'm sure people that use FreeBSD for production servers have more than that to share. Try searching the forum.

I did that before starting a new thread, only that sometime sysadmins find problems and solutions without help from somebody else. I was hoping that someone will tell me something that is not posted here or on other forums where I am a member.

Maybe I am a little bit paranoid, but it is the first time I set up from ground a cPanel/WHM server and I want it to be as close to perfect as possible. I want to be prepared for everything :)

Anyway, by monday I'll get the new server and I hope I'll handle it fine :D
