    Hi,

I'm facing a problem with the cpbandwd process on one of my servers, its taking over 80 % of the memory and eventually kills the server, I have to either kill the process in between else within minutes the server is hung and the only option left is to reboot it.

I could not find any reference to this process on entire forum and I would appreciate if someone could help in this.

I sent a ticket to the CPanel Support team and here's their reply for reference should anyone face the same problem :

The group named was missing from your /etc/group file and this has
caused the logrotate program to fail every day. As a result, the
size of the system log files has continued to grow until they are very big.

The maillog file is more than 800 megabytes in size, and since the cpbandwd
program reads this file, it has been using extra memory because the of
the large file size. I have added the group named back to the system and now when the log file rotate the problem should resolve.

    Thanks...to Eris C from Cpanel team :)

In this case the 'named' group is there on the group file.
This happens only when the server is rebooted. When it comes up , the load is like crazy for the first 15 minutes and then it returns back to normal as if nothing happened.

It stays normal till the next time its rebooted maybe after a month or two.
    Any ideas
