    Hi all,

My cppop keeps failing when multiple users (not the same ip) connects to pop3 service provided for cpanel.

It keeps very laggy (some cases failing to download messages)...

It´s not a case of limiting connections per hour, its just when 10 diferent users conects to pop3, and make it slow...

How do I fix it ?

While cppop stay slow, other services remain ok.

    Thanks in advance,

    Daniel

Are those accounts leaving email on the server instead of emptying out their inbox after retrieving "new" mail? If so, then you should tell the client to access using IMAP instead as POP3 does not work very well with large inbox files in that situation (it's a horrible client feature). Swithcing to the new maildir format may help when it is officially introduced.

I haven't run it myself, so I can't say for sure.

However I'd bet a fair amount that it converts mailboxes from mbox to maildir and, hopefully, configures everything else to use the new maildir format, such as installing courier imap.

Since a web interface should be emerging with the 10.7 release, I'm hoping that there will be a bit of an explanation from cPanel . . .

I've played with it a bit on a test server. At the very least it:

    1. Converts all your mailboxes from mbox to maildir format (!)

    2. Removes cppop and cpimap and replaces them with Courier IMAP/POP3

    3. Disables Neomail (not compatible)

    Well, installed maildir...

    Everything is ok now...

But, If (supposing) i have to go back do mbox, how do I do this ?

    Is there a way?

    Cry, my neomail is gone...

You can run the same script to revert to mbox format

Question to anyone that has converted over to Maildir.

In cpanel, under Manage and Add e-mail accounts / Show disk space used.
All mine are showing a wrong amount of spaced used.
Anyone getting the right numbers ?
A Bug report has been added. http://bugzilla.cpanel.net/show_bug.cgi?id=3172

From R158 to E191 and five days later, the e-mail usage is still wrong and no response from the bug report.

    Hey Chirpy,

What s the best link to the latest maildir format docs for those who want them?

I found http://cr.yp.to/proto/maildir.html but wanted to make sure someone did not have something prettier...

EDIT: Makes sense to me ;)

No more locks, teah! trying to explain a lock file sometimes falls on deaf ears.

Another link for those interested. Can't wait for this one ;)

I still have the cppop, and imap services as listed in my service status. I had them even when i was at R55. Now, I've upgraded to R158, btw when I upgraded cpanel version to R158, pop3 wasnt working though it was shown as up in service status until I rebooted the VPS.
    clamd up
    cppop up
    cpsrvd up
    exim (exim-4.52-15_cpanel_maildir) up
    eximstats up
    ftpd up
    imap up

Any help with this will be appreciated

I would think that the best resource for the new maildir setup would be the Courier IMAP site you listed.

As for the processes in Service Status, make sure that the chkservd pid file don't still exist for cppop in /var/run/chkservd/. You should still have an imap service running, so that bit is working. Then restart chkservd.
