cppop locks port 110 even when disabled.

Even when I remove cppop from /etc/xinetd.d the problem remains. Port 110 only accepts connections when cppop is enabled. This should not be the case.

I need to use an alternate pop3 server and this is just getting in the way.

How can cpanel be configured to take its hooks from port 110?

Make sure you removed it from chksrvd's config directory /etc/chksrvd/. If you see a file named cppop in that directory, chksrvd wil try to restart the serverice every 5 minutes, even if you removed/modified the startup scripts.
