My clients can't get email by cppop

Every time I get mails
pop failed @ Mon Mar 6 14:13:34 2006. A restart was attempted automagicly.

What should I check firstly?

Try restarting cpanel (service cpanel restart). I guess you will get an syntax error. There seems to be some bug in the latest version of cPanel. I fixed this by copying the corrupt file from a second server.

If it's a persistent problem for you, you might want to consider converting over to maildir and courier-imap/pop3 which usually does away with issues with the older cppop daemon.

Hey,

Sorry to use your topic to post my problems but i thought it would be easier than having 2 theads on the go :P

anywasy i tried restarting pop and i got this error..

[email protected] [/home/theraven]# /scripts/restartsrv_cppop
Undefined subroutine &main::myheaders called at bin/cppop.pl line 1760.

Im soo novice at this stuff i have no idea what needs to be fixed to reenable pop to work again for my customers

oh and one other thing i tried restarting cpanel

[email protected] [/home/theraven]# service cpanel restart
bash: service: command not found

been trying everything to get pop working..
Reinstalled Exim4
Basically imap works as i have been telling customers to use webmail.. its just the popaccess thats not working at all

Right now my Hosting Provider forgot to swap the ip address on my cpanel account so i have been without whm for 3 days untill they swap it..
So i'd appriciate if you could help me out with shell access as cpanel is unaccessible

How does one go about doing this in cPanel WHM?

Ok, I am also having an issue with my POP service... I have never delt with CPPOP before until recently, nor have I delt with Cpanel ... I'm a bit hesitent to go into the shell and start throwing crap around since I really dont know my new server all that well.. Anyway, I tried to run the above POP restart script and this is what I get... BTW, when users try to get POP email they get authentication errors, I was away for awhile and something did an update which killed my WHM, Cpanel, and POP ... I had the service provider fix my WHM and Cplanel, but POP is still down. Back to the script, this is what I get:

[email protected] [/scripts]# ./restartsrv_cppop
Waiting to bind to port 110 (Address already in use)....
Waiting to bind to port 110 (Address already in use)....
Waiting to bind to port 110 (Address already in use)....
Waiting to bind to port 110 (Address already in use)....

I'm used to running the plain old pop3d, ... I am looking through my running services and I do not see anything that looks to me like a pop service, however in WHM I have a green "up" for pop... I dunno.. here is a list of my services, mabey someone can point out which of them is my pop service since I seem to be retarted with this new server of mine. (I'm used to my basic old Slackware system with no panels and whm and such) /// Also, what is this mailmanctl service?

IT's probably running up another daemon through xinetd. Check /etc/xinetd.d/ and set any pop3 files to disable yes, then restart xinetd.

port 110

You can check what is using the port 110. Find this out using the " netstat -lpn " command . Try killing the process using the port and restart the pop daemon.

Similar Problem as Kullnd

I just had a similar problem to the one Kullnd listed.

I ran netstat -lnp and there were no applications associated with the open connections (listed just a - ). I was taking too long to figure out how to clear these stale connections so I rebooted the server which fixed the problem. However in the future I would rather not reboot my server. Any idea if there's away to remove these stale connections. They must be in files somewhere on the system.

That's probably a problem with your kernel, or compilation of netstat (most commonly seen on VPS systems, for example). Most commonly, though, it will be a process run up through xinetd, so that's moot. However, if you don't see the PID in netstat then you could try lsof:

lsof -i -n -P | grep 110
