    client on one of our dedicated servers only has one domain on his server (his own) and is trying to create ftp users for his developers. I created a test one to see if i could log in and it didnt work.

    Whats weird is that /etc/proftpd.conf looks pretty basic, it doesnt look like it\'s been updated at all. I\'m assuming their should be a seperate vhost for this domain right? this is what it looks like

    DisplayConnect /etc/issue.net

    ServerName \"ProFTPD\"
    AuthUserFile /etc/proftpd/passwd.vhosts
    LogFormat BytesLog \"%b\"
    ServerType standalone
    DeferWelcome off
    DefaultServer on
    DefaultRoot ~ !wheel
    Port 21
    Umask 022
    User nobody
    Group proftpd
    <Directory />
    AllowOverwrite on
    </Directory>
    <Anonymous ~ftp>
    UseFtpUsers on
    RequireValidShell off
    User ftp
    Group ftp
    UserAlias anonymous ftp
    <Limit LOGIN>
    AllowAll
    </Limit>
    MaxClients 10
    DisplayLogin welcome.msg
    DisplayFirstChdir .message
    <Limit WRITE>
    DenyAll
    </Limit>
    </Anonymous>

    I checked perms on their home dir and it looks good. read perl all accross the world and they own the dir.

    Anybody have a fix for this.

    and when i try to log in as ocshaun@dotsperinch.com i get this.

    Jan 28 17:22:21 dotsperinch proftpd[1484]: PAM-listfile: Couldn\'t open /etc/ftpusers
    Jan 28 17:22:21 dotsperinch PAM_pwdb[1484]: check pass; user unknown
    Jan 28 17:22:22 dotsperinch proftpd[1484]: dotsperinch.ocservers.net (216-73-111-2.ocdc-01.net[216.73.111.2]) - PAM(ocshaun@dotsperinch.com): User not known to the underlying authentication module.

    /etc/ftpusers doesnt exist also.

    Hm..................
    I think you have to use the username@domain.com login scheme if you don\'t have any virtual hosts configured within your /etc/proftpd.conf - that is, all of your shared IP users (which is all you have on this particular machine, right)? ... authenticate off the same file (/etc/proftpd/passwd.vhosts).... so, you need to make sure you provide the domain name after every ftp user ID as well.

    Actually the ftp user is not complete WITHOUT the domain included, if you don\'t have any domains bound to unique IPs on this system.

    FTP

    We are having a similar problem with anonymous FTP. Everthing is enabled in Cpanel.
    The logs report:

    - FTP session opened.
    no such GID '50'
    - no such group 'ftp'
    OK, resolved the user/group error by adding 'ftp:x:50:' to /etc/group.

    This is still a problem:
    - error: user ftp home directory is NULL or &&
    Killed

    On a roll here - Had to add 'ftp:x:14:50:FTP User:/home2/steve/public_ftp:' to their file in /etc/proftpd
