    Hi:

I am trying to create an ftp account

I am able to login via my domainname/cpanel

I have seen the section to set up an ftp

    Add FTP Account

    Login: ec1234
    Password: wed456
    Quota:
    Directory /home/ec1234/public_html

However, I am not able to ftp to the site

Last night I had logged into WHM and set up a user on the account

I am able to use that user to log in to the cpanel server

Can anyone assist me. I am wondering if the problem is the way the user was created in WHM

    Domain UserName
    Password Quota (MB)
    Ip Cgi Access

    Hello,

To access the ftp account through the new user, you will need to create another ftp account.
from cpanel >> ftp account. after creating a new ftp account use the following login details

    URL : ftp://domainname
    Username : username@domainname
    Password :

    Thanks

Just to emphasize, the critical part of that is that the username has to be fully qualified like an email address, eg ec1234@yourdomainname.com.

When you use a cpanel account name as the ftp login, you don't need the @yourdomainname.com part - hence the confusion - and you're not the only one who's been confused by that over the years.

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but is it possible to login using not a domain but just an IP address?

I don't have the domain transfered to my new server/ip, but i already want to start uploading files to make sure everything is ready. Anyone able to help me out with this?

if it's your own server, why not try transferring with scp, sftp, wget, rsync (if you are root on both boxes) or even cpanel's move functions??

I am most probably one of the biggest noobs on this subject, hence why i do not have a clue what you are talking about

Maybe this is an easier question to answer. If i dont have a domainname, what is the address i go to to view the index file in my "consoleg" account?

Okay, for "noobs" .. just log into your WHM and go to "Transfers" then select "Copy an account from another server" or "Copy an account from another server with account password".

You can also see the WHM help files:
    http://www.cpanel.net/docs/whm/Copy_an_account_from_another_server.htm
    http://www.cpanel.net/docs/whm/Copy_an_account_from_another_server_with_account_password.htm

If these transfer types don't fit your needs, there are a few others, easily done through WHM.

If not, then you should use what I mentioned in the previous post, and search these forums, since there are many posts on this subject.

    Good Luck!
