Is there a way for a client to run a cron from their account that creates backups at certain times?

Why do you want this when cpbackup already creates a backup every day ? You plan to provide customer option to create backups more than once in 24hrs ?

    cpbackup is on root side.

    Client asked the following:

Basically for them to create their own backup in their account so they can download it.

If you have the backup enabled from root, the user can download the backup from inside the user cpanel. Atleast i saw it working the last time when one of my customers asked the same thing. I checked up with the default theme, it supports that.

I have it enabled via FTP to upload to my backup server. I do not want ths for all clients.

It's just a question if one client can have a cron that will create backups at certain times and they can download them.

Just for one client, not for all.

Thats the reason your clients don't get the backup for download. Anyways you could do a custom script for him. Or alternatively if you want the entire cpanel backup file for him, just follow instructions below:

Make a script named backup-acct with source as below

    PHP:
    /scripts/pkgacct username
    mv
    /home/cpmove-username.tar.gz /home/someuser
    chown someuser
    .someuser /home/someuser/cpmove-username.tar.gz
Now save this file and do chmod +x backup-acct. Schedule the script to run whenever you want. This will create the backup of the account and place it where you want it to be (probably another ftp account on your server) and your client can download from there.

Thanks for your hard working in replying, but please try to understand what I'm asking.

Can the "client" run a cron or make a script that will do it "without" my involvement?

    np :D

I can make a custom script which can do that for you. The client can order his backup anytime, this script can make his backup in real time for him to download or schedule and make the backup. Then the client can just ftp. Make your pick ;)

Just to clarify, the backup would be stored in their account so they can ftp into their account and get the backup.

    How much?

If you make it store in their account, the next the backup runs, it will combine the earlier backup file as well which is not good.

As for the custom script, please PM me, its not k to talk on these matters in the forum posts.

In your PM box look to the right.

Jump to folder: (sent) and delete all the sent PMs
