as we know , cpanel didn't have the option to let users select the charset for the databse, it use the default one , normally is latin1_swedish_ci .

the users/admins need to go phpmyadmin and change the charset for the database .

as all the dev scripts are now working with the UTF-8 and the using of utf8_general_ci is the default for all web scripts .

this is a wanted feature request . i have added a Feature Requests , when it wll be public i will update the thread with the link to vote .

is small and easy implementation for cpanel dev . i hope it can available soon .

If you just want to change the default, just edit your /etc/my.cnf and add:

    character-set-server=utf8
    collation-server=utf8_general_ci

...and if you want to change the default Storage Engine to InnoDB:

    default-storage-engine=InnoDB

    ...and restart MySQL.

This will set the general defaults that a database will be created with unless the tool creating it explicitly specifies other settings.
