    Hello all,

    I am relatively new to cPanel and have run into a problem I cannot solve.

    I have a website (MazelTot.com) that was configured and working on a virtual server hosted by GoDaddy.

    Now, MazelTot.com is pointing me towards the cPanel default website page. The other website (ComicPersona.com) I have on the virtual server is functioning normally.

    I have double checked that the domain name for MazelTot is being forwarded to the proper IP address. I have also looked over the DNS Zone setup page and can't see anything out of the ordinary.

    Also, the e-mail, ftp, and cPanel access for MazelTot are working perfectly.

    I have always believed that we are smarter than the machines. Sadly, today I have discovered that I am not.

    Does anybody have any ideas as to what I can check or do next?

    Thanks!

    -Dave

    Bite your tongue. :p

    According to this site, theres an issue with your nameservers.

    Thanks for the quick response.

    I checked out IntoDNS.com and have seen what you're talking about.

    The question I have is: why would both domains that are hosted on the virtual server (MazelTot.com and ComicPersona.com) show the same information when queried on IntoDNS if one doesn't work (MazelTot) and one does (ComicPersona)?

    If the problem does lie with the nameservers what would be a possible solution?

    Always learning. Thanks again!

    For reference of what nameserver is using what IP, check this area in WHM:
    WHM > DNS Functions > Nameserver IPs

    If you don't have access to WHM, you'll need to speak with your host.

    It's not the nameservers, it's the DNS Zones of those domains that are wrong.

    It's quite difficult to try to tell you how to fix them without seeing the zones.

    Re: Default Web Page now coming up, after many hours I can't figure out why

    The DNS zone file that your domains are using do not have the right nameservers listed compared to the domain whois nameservers:

    The domain registrar nameservers
    $ whois comicpersona.com | grep -i "name server"
    Name Server: NS1.COMICPERSONA.COM
    Name Server: NS2.COMICPERSONA.COM

    $ whois mazeltot.com | grep -i "name server"
    Name Server: NS1.MAZELTOT.COM
    Name Server: NS2.MAZELTOT.COM

    The DNS zone file nameserver (NS) entries
    $ dig ns comicpersona.com +short
    ns1.ip.secureserver.net.
    ns2.ip.secureserver.net.

    $ dig ns mazeltot.com +short
    ns1.ip.secureserver.net.
    ns2.ip.secureserver.net.

    ns1.ip.secureserver.net and ns2.ip.secureserver.net do not allow digs for the domain names. The ns1 and ns2.mazeltot.com and ns1 and ns2.comicpersona.com nameservers do allow digs. I cannot tell you why the one domain is working and the other domain isn't working as both shouldn't be working properly due to the fact the zone files aren't correct for the NS entries.

    Re: Default Web Page now coming up, after many hours I can't figure out why

    Thanks, everybody, for the help given. I've been gone a few days and only now have a chance to work on this again.

    I ended up modifying the Apache Server Configuration > Include Editor > Include Filter > Post VirtualHost Include to allow:

    <VirtualHost 50.63.52.116:80>
    ServerName /http://www.mazeltot.com
    DocumentRoot /home/mazeltot/public_html
    ServerAdmin myemail @ mazeltot.com
    UserDir disable
    </VirtualHost>

    This allowed the domain name /http://www.mazeltot.com to reach the site.

    Unfortunately, while I can now reach the site it refuses to run any kind of PHP script. Interestingly, if I use the IP address/~account method of access the PHP scripts run fine.

    My question now is: Why would the domain name/filename.php not work while IP Address/~account/filename.php work just fine?

    Once again thanks for any help, and although I'm relatively new to server administration I am eager to learn.

    So rather than fixing the DNS zone file, you have chosen to add another VirtualHost entry for the domain? I suggest fixing the DNS zone file as I mentioned in my last reply. Your nameservers do not match in the zone what domain whois shows for the domain's nameservers.

    Re: Default Web Page now coming up, after many hours I can't figure out why

    Ok, point taken.

    I've corrected the nameservers in the Zone file. I did this yesterday at about 1pm. IntoDNS now reports no problems with the nameservers.

    I've also removed the VirtualHost entries that I had put in.

    At this point the website is again pointing to the default page and not the the actual site.

    Assuming I've waited long enough for the changes to propagate can anybody think of a reason the site isn't coming up?

    Thanks,

    -David

    I think you are correct, it's definitely a configuration issue on your server. Where you made that VirtualHost change under the Apache Configuration, you shouldn't need to edit that directly. Just out of curiosity, what is the primary domain you have your user 'mazeltot'?

    I don't think this was a DNS issue, but it does help to ensure you're pointed to the proper location. You already mentioned that you were pointed to the server and was getting the default page:

    /http://mazeltot.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi

    Which leads me to believe that you used mazeltot.com for your server's default domain.

    Also, Your DNS is working correctly:
    ===============================================
    # host -a mazeltot.com
    Trying "mazeltot.com"
    ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 41343
    ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 5, AUTHORITY: 2, ADDITIONAL: 0

    ;; QUESTION SECTION:
    ;mazeltot.com. IN ANY

    ;; ANSWER SECTION:

    mazeltot.com. 14400 IN MX 0 mazeltot.com.
    mazeltot.com. 86400 IN NS ns1.mazeltot.com.
    mazeltot.com. 86400 IN NS ns2.mazeltot.com.

    ;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
    mazeltot.com. 86400 IN NS ns1.mazeltot.com.
    mazeltot.com. 86400 IN NS ns2.mazeltot.com.

    Received 182 bytes from 127.0.0.1#53 in 308 ms
    ===============================================

    I would truly go back through the WHM and just check the spelling of your domain for mazeltot.com, and if it's not the primary domain for that account, no problem.. just park the domain under that account 'mazeltot'.

    Where you're saying that the email and everything else is working correctly, during the setup did you use your domain for the default domain? If that's the case, maybe the default path for that domain is '/usr/local/apache/htdocs/'?

    Those are a few ideas to tinker with, good luck.. please post back the findings.

    If the site continues to not work now that the DNS entries are correct, you may want to open up a ticket in WHM > Support Center > Contact cPanel or using the link in my signature. If you could post the ticket number here upon opening one, that would help us to track it better.

    Please note that you can submit a ticket as complimentary provided you have a valid cPanel license or trial license, so there would not be a cost associated with sending us a ticket.
