Where in the File Manager do I put my default.html or default.htm web page? I am new to actually having a site hosted, it is a little more difficult than the free sites.

Also, can anyone tell me where I can find detailed instructions on how to use the options in Cpanel.

    Thanks alot for any help.

I have an index.html file in the folder but, when I pull up my web site, or my http://ipaddress all I get is a page that says....

    Index of /

    and list the following files:
    Parent Directory and _private/

So if you go into file manager and click on the icon beside "public_html" to switch to that directory, you see the file "index.html" listed there?

If you have an index.html file in the public_html directory and the URL gives the listing instead, your hosting provider will have to look at it because something is wrong.

cPanel is looking for a file called 'index.*' (.htm, .html, .shtml, .php, etc....)

If you use the file 'default.html' (in your /public_html folder) and don't rename it to index.html, it will show the directory listing UNLESS you modify your .htaccess file to include the runtime directive:

    DirectoryIndex default.html
