Name server is a common name.

DNS, WINS both ends with Name Server, but are different in use.
WINS is old, almost not used anymore.
So if someone speaks about a name server, 99% he talks about a DNS server.

The most used DNS server software is called "named".

So also here, the did skip Domain in the name. As the last d stands for Daemon.

More info, ask you best friend google.

    Danny,

DNS = "Domain Name Server" or "Domain Name Service" or "Domain Name System" all mean the somain thing. A common service that resolves a domain name into a IP address.
