Hello,
I really like the new WHM v66.x for just about everything except one, and it's driving me absolutely bonkers..
It seems the new WHM interface captures the following shortcut (on a Mac) to toggle the left nav menu:
command + `

It so happens that this is the Mac's keyboard shortcut to switch between windows within a same application, so it is deeply ingrained for old guys like me...

So my question is this: is there any way to turn off this shortcut in WHM?

Thank you!
Peter

i appreciate that link, but, as i mentioned, modifying that particular shortcut is not an option for me; it is just about as ingrained in my UX as the shortcuts for copy, paste or save...
i use and need this shortcut probably 30 times per minute, so changing it or disabling it application-wide is absolutely not an option...

Maybe WHM keyboard shortcuts can be modified in the WHM theme files?

@petersphilo - which browser are you using?

I ask because I'm not able to reproduce misbehavior with Chrome...however I do see some nuanced behavior in Safari that I bet you might be referring to: When the WHM search box is focused, we appear to be capturing "⌘`" when we should be ignoring any press of ` entirely. Is that what you're referring to?

I am with petersphilo !

This shortcut (and a couple of others I detailed in another post) don't work at all on Spanish keyboards - leading me to have to wonder about how many other keyboard layouts they wont work with, or conflict with, either. Mac appear to refer to it as the Command+` Cycles through windows for the OS X.

Maybe WHM keyboard shortcuts can be modified in the WHM theme files?
This certainly seems a sensible proposal, and this, or some alternative method, would go a long way to ensure that cPanel as a market leader, demonstrate that they are sensitive to international users that don't all use 'US standard keyboard' layouts !

You may find Keyboard Layout Charts interesting

Precisely.
I did not realize that this only happens in Safari, which is my primary browser..
Sometimes the shortcut still allows the window switch, and sometimes not.

So I bet the "sometimes stills allows the window switch, sometimes not" part is caused by which area of the WHM interface you have focused at the time. It's finicky, but we'll get it fixed! I've got it queued for development with the case ID of "CPANEL-15813"

Thank you so much!
It's driving me absolutely bonkers, which is too bad 'cuz the rest of WHM/cPanel is pretty great...
i'm soooooo happy to have switched from Plesk nearly 2 years ago, after some serious nudging by my hosting provider.

@rpvw - So I brought your comment to our User Experience department as a question for the room and it prompted some pretty great discussion about what it would take to make keyboard shortcuts configurable (and/or localizable). They reported that it's not something we are currently capable of doing easily, but that they understand the need for it and will accommodate that in future design.

The next step for something like this is to get it onto the board at cPanel & WHM Feature Requests to get the community talking about it and exchanging ideas. We pay a lot of attention to the conversation there and it really helps us in designing changes. Talk you into submitting the idea there?
