I presume you are asking about the "Disk Space Usage" page in an account's cPanel. "Other" is disk space that is used by files or subdirectories that are not in the account's root directory or in one of the following subdirectories: /etc, /mail, /public_ftp, /public_html, /ruby or /tmp.

For example, if your account name was cpanelacc, and you had a subdirectory named /home/cpanelacc/big_tmp_space, then the usage of the contents of /home/cpanelacc/big_tmp_space would be counted as "Other" and not added to the usage of the directories I mentioned above.

    I have the same question.
    - if i go to the users directory on the shell and run "du -hac" it shows a total of 7.4 GB
    - cPanel Disk Space Usage howerver reports "9851 MB".
    - "Other" reports "2131 MB"

So cPanel is reporting 2 GB more then is used in the homedir.
    My questions are:
    - Does "Other" include files outside the homedir, and if so, at which locations.
    - Is there a command to recalculate disk space usage (without waiting 4 hours).

The 'Other' item in the Disk Space Usage UI refers to files owned by the user that reside outside the home directory. Files within the home directory are counted by one of the other entries in the graph (e.g.
    /(other subdirectories) ).

The 'Other' item does not include database disk usage as those have their own line items in the graph.

    Essentially the value is:

    (quota -v user ) - (size of /home/user)
