DNS and Add-On Domains

Add-on domains are supposed to be fully resolvable as if they were their own account. A client says she is having a problem with a domain. Going to the add-on.com shows her main account. After researching it, here is what I find

http://add-on.com/directory/ (with trailing slash) works as it should.
Drop the trailing slash and the add-on.com becomes
http://subdomain.maindomain.com/diretory

Whats the best method to fix this..the client is not happy :(

I'll give that shot. Since it is a problem on the directories, I wasn't sure if doing anything to the httpd.conf would fix it. Thanks!!
