Hello,

I would like to know something about the DNS functionalities having a cPanel control panel to control your web hosting. If I want my domain or subdomain to redirect to an ip with a specific port, could I do this with cPanel?

What is this type of DNS called and where can I set it in cPanel?

Does it require that the web host allow customers to set this?

Many thanks,

You can't do this with just DNS. You'll need to either point the A-record of the hostname to a server, then on that server either a) create a redirect (cpanel has a section dedicated to doing this, or you can get fance and write your own .htaccess/httpd.conf rules) or b) (more advanced) use mod_proxy to redirect the traffic.

Method (a) is something you should be able to do yourself.

Hello :)

Yes, the previous post is accurate. Assuming you do not have root access to the server, you must make any "A" record modifications via the "Simple DNS Editor" or "Advanced DNS Editor" option in cPanel.

Thank you.
