Ok i just set up the A entry for our site so as we could catch all our subdomains, i.e if someone tries http://yfyfg.artorg.co.uk its gonna go to the site index page found at http://artorg.co.uk

but for some reason its not its just going to a weird cpanel page saying thers nothing set for the account, the main domain work fine

    i added

    A entry , *.artorg.co.uk. - 21x.xxx.xxx

Your DNS seems set up correctly. Both the subdomain and the actual domain point to the same IP 216.XXX.YYY.ZZZ. However, when you point your browser to the IP address http://216.XXX.YYY.ZZZ, you get the same page.

The problem therefore lies with your httpd.conf. If you move your domain up in httpd.conf to be the first one listed for the IP address, it will become the default at that IP address and all should work as you want it ;)
