    Guys

We are trying to move our mixed hosting everinment to a cPanel based one and we are getting in a twist over how to move/integrate our current DNS system easily. I think we might be making it harder for ourselves than necessary.

Currently we have a domain control panel with some custom pages that allow clients to modify and edit their DNS entries in a simple manner at the backend of this is a database. Every hour we rebuild the DNS records from this database into a single file that is then read on the DNS system to create the actual DNS records. This could feasibly be re-written to take a step out and build the zone files direct from the database.

Is there an easier way to do for cPanel. We plan to use the cPanel DNS cluster and have multiple front end cPanel web servers clustered to the DNS servers to update site DNS records but need to integrate the additional DNS records to the cPanel DNS cluster.

    I hope this makes sense

    Any ideas/pointers?

    Thanks

    Regards

    Gavin

    Gavin,
What backend DNS server are you using?

If you are using bind w/ zone files, you could just create the account then copy the zone files over on a cPanel setup.

    Thanks Matt

Currently we use Cobalt servers as the DNS and run a script on them to extract the database records into a records file that is then processed by the Cobalt's into the DNS entries zone files etc in their format. In essence we have customised our system to work with the Cobalt method now however time has moved on and we need to create a similar method for the cPanel

The problem comes as not all the domains we maintain and manage are then hosted by us on our servers however we are probably hosting the DNS so we need to find a way of integrating those DNS records into a cPanel cluster.

It is not a one off integration it is a daily/hourly update we need to feed to the cPanel DNS cluster

    Hopefully that makes it clearer.

    Thanks

    Gavin
