anyone here having issues with DNS, not resolving host names after doing an update? I've looked thru some posts recnetly and havent seen any mention of it. Am I the only one seeing this?

I'm asking because I've seen a number of servers recently having the /etc/namd.conf file getting over written by a default config file.

of course running /scripts/rebuildnamedconf fixes the issue, but finding the root cause of the issue would be great.

Is this redhat enterprise 3 by chance ? or a derivitave of RHEL3 ? If so, check that you don't have the caching-nameserver package installed ( rpm -qa | grep caching ) and remove it if you do. This should not be installed and is most likely what is causing your issue. That said, this has been fixed to my knowledge just recently, so make sure you're on the latest major update if possible.
