Here is an interesting one. I have a customer that arbitrates DNS. They send http to our server. On our server he has a formmail that he would like to send to his mail server at his company which happens to be mail.thesamedomainastheaccount.com

setting up the mx record and removing the mail cname/a name does not work.

I have also tried setting up a seperate record for mail.thedomain.com with the external IP and pointing the mx to it.

I have tried re-organizing the records so a cname comes first for the IP then the MX record

    but to no avail.

    Any recommendations?

The problem does not look to be the dns records but a file telling the system it is local.
