We are a IT company that among many other things provides hosting for our clients. We currently have two Cpanel servers, five or six Linux web servers, 2-3 windows web servers and a slew of Linux and windows dedicated servers. DNS for zones hosted on our CPanel server are handled by Cpanel and we really like the interface users are give to edit their DNS zones. DNS for all of our other hosts are handled by two dedicated Linux servers running bind (a master and a slave). They only way to edit DNS on those is editing the zone files by hand with a Linux text editor. We want to be able to open this up so more of our techs can handle DNS changes and so we can offload some of that work off to our clients (especially those who know what they are doing and want to do it).

Is there anyway to setup an account in CPanel that would just have rights for editing DNS zones that they own? Essentially having a CPanel interface for a dedicated DNS server. I have been reading up on Cpanel DNS only but it doesn't sound like that is quite what we are looking for.

    Hello :)

You could create cPanel accounts on standard cPanel machines and limit the features of those accounts to DNS functions only. However, it's currently not possible to create cPanel accounts on DNS-Only machines.

You are welcome to submit this as a feature request at:

    Thank you.
